Case Study: SPRINT & ALPHA

Empowering Students to make Better Choices through Machine Learning and AI.

We were engaged by a leading not-for-profit organisation that supports students preparing for, accessing and succeeding at college.

The objective was to help our client deliver new revenue streams through designing and building innovative products and services that deliver better outcomes for students, both leading up to and during college. 

Our Design Thinking methodology enabled us to quickly take the client from zero to a cutting-edge, working prototype, as well as create a shift in their business strategy and culture - all in just 15 weeks!

Step 1: Understanding User Needs

Understanding users’ needs and pain points was at the forefront of our Research phase. In 5 weeks and during 9 workshops, we engaged 110 participants, ranging from high school and college students to parents and counsellors. 

We quickly developed a detailed view of our client’s key users, creating artefacts such as core user journeys and personae to enable us to design better solutions later on. Our analysis revealed several broad themes which were common to all groups in varying degrees, such as Know Myself, Find a Career and College Matching.

These themes formed a foundation to ideate and design from. Our Design Thinking methodology enabled us to quickly take the client from zero to a cutting-edge, working prototype, as well as create a shift in their business strategy and culture - all in just 15 weeks!

Step 2: From Concept to Reality

In 5 weeks, we built a working, multi-channel prototype, powered by conversational Artificial Intelligence and backed up with live data.

Our Design Thinking methodology enabled us to quickly take the client from zero to a cutting-edge, working prototype, as well as create a shift in their business strategy and culture - all in just 15 weeks!

Our scope focused on supporting high school students to better understand their skills and interests, in order to inform their college and career decisions. The prototype understands and learns user behaviour, incorporating our client’s invested affiliate data and services, where appropriate, to achieve better outcomes for students. 

We also acknowledged that is was important to meet students in their own environment, such as iMessage and Facebook, and that the prototype interacted in a way that was both familiar and relevant to them. 

Step 3: Deliver Outcomes

We are passionate about delivering outcomes for our clients that are powerful, game-changing and lasting. 

Through a combination of user-centred design and a bold ambition to create the future, we have designed an entirely new proposition within the educational market. The nexxt step was to create a business case and roadmap, and plan to roll out to the wider market, across an Alpha, Beta and Go-Live.
